MV-HEVC Format

MV-HEVC is an official extension of the HEVC video format that incorporates support for multiple views (MV). This feature enables the assignment of a distinct view for each eye, making it ideal for stereoscopic rendering in 3D films. Additionally, MV-HEVC movies can be viewed in 2D by selecting just one of the views.

This format was officially completed in October 2014 and adopted by Apple in 2023 for its Apple Vision Pro. Subsequently, Meta also provided support for it in their Quest device.

MV Converter is a macOS app that allows to encode existing 3D (and immersive) videos to MV-HEVC.

MVPlayer.app is a visionOS app that allows to play 3D (and immersive) MV-HEVC videos on Apple Vision Pro.
